EPA, on November 30, 2011, issued a DFR on additional Pathways that meet the GHG reduction requirments for biomass-based diesel, advanced biofeul and cellulosic biofuel.
These new Pathaways are:
Camelina Oil, which qualifies as biomass-based diesel
Energy Cane, which qualifies as cellulosic biofuel
Giant Reed, which qualifies as cellulosic biofuel
Napier-Grass, which qualifies as cellulosic biofuel
The DFR also qualifies renewable gasoline and renewable gasoline blendstock (made from certain qualifying blendstocks) as cellulosic biofuel
These must be produced from the following qualifying blendstocks: crop residue, slash, pre-commercial thinnings, tree residue, annual cover crops or the cellulosic components of separated yard waste, separated food waste and separated municipal solid waste (MSW).
THe DFR also qualifies biodiesel produced through esterification as biomass-based diesel or advanced biofuel.
The DFR also clarifies the definition of renewable diesel to explicitly include jet fuel
