Our practice includes a unit of approximately 100 staff dedicated to local government auditing and management consulting as a practice specialty. Each member of the group has training and experience in the field of local government auditing. The benefits to clients are evident: not only are Weaver audit staff members better informed about technical issues, but our attention to those issues of the Public Sector practice enhances our ability to make suggestions and help our clients initiate change.

Members of our professional staff are active participants in governmental organizations. Jerry Gaither, audit partner, is an associate member of the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). In addition, Jerry Gaither, Kerry Caves, Shawn Parker, Kevin Sanford, John De Burro and Sara Dempsey are members of the Special Review Committee of the GFOA. Jerry Gaither is also a Certified Government Finance Manager and a former member of the Technical Issues Committee of the AICPA as liaison to the Governmental Accounting Standards Board.

Additionally, David Duree, audit partner, is the past chair of the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy and is currently a Board member of the Auditing Standards Board of the AICPA and is a regional director of the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy.

The Firm’s practice management plan includes the continued growth of the local government practice specialization with continued investment of the resources necessary to ensure technical skill development.
